Ezekiel 6:1-4, 9b-10 “I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. And they shall know that I am the Lord, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.”
“And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them, And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God; Thus saith the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. And your altars shall be desolate, and your images shall be broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.”
Ezekiel is told to set his face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them. Ezekiel was told to tell the mountains, and hills, and rivers, and valleys the destruction that God would do unto His people that worshipped idols. Israel had been told to go into a pagan land and conquer it for the Lord and to tear down those idols in the land and worship Him only. They rebelled against God’s command and did not throughly purge the land from idols. This became their down fall, because as generation after generation grew up these idols became more and more involved in their children’s lives. The following generations began worshipping these idols to the extent they gave their children to sacrifice on the altar of these idols. God is a jealous God and He hates our idol worship.
Deuteronomy 6:14-16 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you; For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.”
Idols today are not necessarily wood statues that are on mountain tops, but they are things we prioritize in our life above God. They are things like jobs, sports, hobbies, money, success, self, relationships, etc. Idol worship is anything that you give your devotion to over obedience and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Whenever we allow idols in our lives, the next generation will see our idols and they will become more and more devoted to them. Be careful to whom or what you give your devotion, you may be rearing the next idol worshippers.
Addition is idol worship. How many children become addicts because a parent had an idol called addiction. God wants your devotion, and anything less is spiritual adultery and breaks the heart of God. Repent from your idol worship, tear down your idols, and give God the respect and reverence He deserves–worship Him in Spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) You can choose for God to tear down your idols, or God will tear you down before your idols. The good news is that God has the power over idols and if you ask Him, He is willing to tear down your idols!
1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
